Love - Ad Infinitum

“When love awakens in your life, in the night of your heart, it is like the dawn breaking within you. Where before there was anonymity, now there is intimacy; where before there was fear, now there is courage; where before in your life there was awkwardness, now there is a rhythm of grace and gracefulness; where before you used to be jagged, now you are elegant and in rhythm with your self. When love awakens in your life, it is like a rebirth, a new beginning.” ~ John O'Donohue, Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom
Love and fear.  They are the two main driving forces in life, it is said.  I see the war between these forces in myself and in others.  It is a constant shift from one to another.  Fear overtakes love.  Love replaces fear.

Fear won the battle this week.  I felt it.  He and I were not in sync.  He said one thing, and my mind perceived it as something else.  I would do something, and he would misconstrue it as something different.  We were at odds, and I felt off-balance.  We had both lost our footing.  Fear weighed too heavily upon us, and we were sinking.

Fear-1.  Love-0.

But something happened.  A shift took place.  Words were exchanged, and the burden was lifted. The other force, love, was gaining momentum.  Fear was being replaced.

He confessed that his recent actions were because he was scared to death. Afraid of loss.  Scared of change.  Fearful of losing one's self.

"I would never have been afraid if this, you, were not so important to me.

We found our balance again.  I felt it, in his posture, in his embrace, in his kiss.

Love really is that powerful.

Love-ad infinitum. Fear-non-existent.

  1. In scientific studies, the same part of the brain that is stimulated when scared is the same part as when in love.
I liked your beautiful exploration of that idea.

  3. You know what they say: The darkest hour is just before the dawn...
So it is with love and fear. And sometimes we even fear love.
You caught me completely off guard with your mail, but it was a ray of delight to hear from you. In your honor I posted a little explanation on my blog why I am hiding like a mole.
