Always Wear Nice Underwear

“Always wear pretty underwear, on account of you just never know.” ~ Jill Conner Browne, The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love

I was in my teens when my mom first told me about the importance of wearing clean and good underwear.

"Always wear clean and nice underwear and bra," my mother warned. "Because you might get into an accident and then what would the paramedics think if they saw you were wearing dirty and ripped underwear?"

Never mind that I might get into an accident and get seriously hurt or even die, but God forbid, I must never be caught (even dead) with dirty and holey underwear.

Taking my mom's heed, I have since that time, always worn nice undergarments. Because, well, as she had always warned, you just never know.

And it's that not knowing that is consistently on my mind, especially now.

I was recently diagnosed with a potentially fatal heart disease. Aortic stenosis. The valve which pumps blood to my aorta is not working.

That's right -- my heart is broken. Literally.

I have not yet decided what I will do. My options are still in discussion. I am leaning against valve replacement surgery. I am thinking that I should leave my life to chance and God's hands, even with the knowledge that I am in high risk for a sudden heart attack.

But I could also get run over by a bus or car tomorrow. Or be a victim of a drive-by shooting.

Every day is a risk. You just never know what tomorrow may bring.

But I do know that I will be wearing nice underwear, just in case.

wow, I'm so sorry to hear this :( I hope everything goes well! From what I know about aortic valve replacement, it's a common procedure with very successful results. Sending positive vibes and prayers on your way, update us how you're doing!

i have been away for a while and am sorry to read this. they perform heart valve surgery now via daVinci Robotic procedures, and it is so much easier, non invasive, incisions of about an inch, and less critical in every way including little blood loss and few complications. Easy recovery, less pain, etc. Check it out. no point in risking a fatal heart attack if a quick surgery can repair this and have you back on your feet in no time. no joke. my surgery was done this way and what normally would have required a minimum of 6 weeks recovery took 5 days max, and i was back in the saddle again. pain meds only needed for a few days. i was showering in 3-4 days. i am older and not in good physical shape like you, so your would be even easier, i imagine. go for it, nova. keep me posted via email or FB, plz. hugsss.

When I go to the doctor I feel about the same as when I pull my car into Sears; "Your going to need new shocks and brakes today sir."

I certainly would get a second opinion, but it sounds like your going to need some repairs. My friend was walking on the tread mill and literally died when his heart failed. Luckily he was revived by some quick thinking people with CPR and an AED. He has subsequently undergone surgery and is doing very well.

You will be in my prayers.

At least we know your not Jewish. "How did you... cheap underwear." Quote from Will & Grace. Sorry to hear about your condition. But I know you are optimistic. But sending good thoughts your way regardless. :P Have a good day. I need to implement this. Not the clean part but nice underwear. Maybe I should get me some for my upcoming birthday.
